Breathalyser Kits in All Cars Heading to France

Got your summer holiday booked, yet? It’s still February, the temperature outside is barely touching double figures and many people will have sought out an antidote to the winter blues by busying themselves with the prospect of a break abroad in a few months’ time.

Cannabis and Driving Doubles Collision Rate

After January’s news stories from across the country detailed police forces’ disappointment at the number of people still drinking and driving, the knotty issue of drug driving continues to trouble everyone involved in enforcement.

Last week the British Medical Journal published a paper claiming that drivers that consume cannabis within three hours of getting behind the wheel are almost twice as likely to cause a collision. Read Full Article »

Are You Really Complying With Drivers’ Hours Laws?

The fact that drivers hours abuses tops the list of most common prosecutions by VOSA won’t come as much of a surprise.

The agency’s effectiveness report for 2010/11 shows that there were more than 2,100 cases reported for prosecution in England and Wales, and over 2,000 convictions. Read Full Article »

Huge Increase in Speeding Fines?

Fines for speeding could rise to £100 in order that money can be raised to help pay for victims of crime, according to Justice Secretary Ken Clarke.
Although anyone caught driving beyond the speed limit may not have injured anyone, plans are being drawn up to ensure victims of any crime receive adequate compensation.

Motorists who go to court to challenge their fines may even have to pay up to £120 under the proposals. Read Full Article »

The welcome publication of the Senior Traffic Commissioner’s statutory guidance and directions documents is providing clarity and understanding on a host of areas relating to operator licensing.

One such area is the practice of lending, or hiring out, of operator licences.
