In some circumstances it may be possible to avoid endorsement altogether for a motoring offence. For example, if there is a defect in the brakes. steering, tyres or condition of your vehicle or if you have an insecure load and you are able to convince the Magistrates that you did not know of the existence of any defect and nor did you have reasonable cause to suspect the defect. In these circumstances the Magistrates may exercise discretion and not endorse a licence.
If you are convicted of two or more endorsable offences committed on the same occasion, penalty points are normally ordered in respect of only one of those offences. It will usually be the offence attracting the highest number of points, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Please also note that when convicted of an endorsable offence, there will also be an accompanying fine, the amount of which will depend on the seriousness of the offence, and you will also be asked to pay a
contribution towards the prosecution's costs. |
